Uga Chena Huts, Sri Lanka

Our Opinion of Uga Chena Huts
A great location within the buffer zone of Yala National Park, only a few minutes’ drive to the park entrance. We loved the spacious, luxurious cabins, all with their own private pool and offering a real sense of privacy within a wilderness setting. After a long day, one of the enjoyable experiences here is watching the sunset with a sundowner in hand overlooking the wild rugged coast. Your package here includes guided jeep safaris with an experienced ranger in Yala National Park. If you’re lucky you may get to spot one of the 72 leopards in that section of the park. Our recommendation (budget permitting) would be to spend 3 nights here, thus making the most of the game drive experiences yet still allowing yourself time for a bit of relaxation.

Uga Chena Huts Summary
Surrounded by unspoiled wilderness, Uga Chena Huts is well off the beaten track, lying at the end of a specially-built road just a few minutes from the Yala National Park entrance. The property is nestled among dunes and trees at the ocean's edge, and is fringed on one landward side by tropical jungle and on the other by a saline lake where ibises, painted storks, and eben flamingos may be seen wading in the shallows.
The 'huts' are in fact well-appointed private cabins offering views of the surrounding wilderness and seascape. Cabin exteriors are designed to harmonize with the jungle environment, while the interiors gently emphasize the safari theme, with log furniture and rustic motifs.
Each cabin contains a living room, bedroom, and shaded outdoor deck with built-in 15ft pool and outdoor shower, and the luxurious en-suite bathroom features a free-standing bathtub and dual vanities. Other cabin amenities include:
Taking its name from the nearby reefs and lighthouse, the Basses restaurant is decorated in a nautical theme and features spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The Bar is filled with memorabilia that illustrates the history of Yala and its environments, and is the perfect venue for a post-safari drink before dinner.
Two additional bars are available: A poolside bar, which is concealed behind a waterfall, and a small beach bar perched on the sand dunes.
