Dulini Moya

Dulini Moya is a luxurious yet deeply authentic safari lodge located in the exclusive Sabi Sands Game Reserve, part of South Africa’s Greater Kruger area. After a short Federal Air flight from Johannesburg to the Ulusaba air strip, it’s just a 15 minute drive through the bush to Dulini Moya lodge, and a very warm welcome from the Dulini team.


The main lodge area is mostly open air, with extensive use of natural materials giving a feel of authenticity. There is a lovely library, inviting fireplaces and an impressive wine cellar. The dining room and lounge flow organically into the garden and the large pool and deck area, which offer a perfect vantage point for viewing across the Mabrak River (which runs dry seasonally).

The six spacious suites are stunning rooms. Where sister lodges Dulini River and Dulini Leadwood tend towards a more contemporary style, Dulini Moya offers a classic elegance – no better or worse, just options for personal preference. A four-poster bed, comfortable lounge area, immaculate bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive deck and private plunge pool all contribute to a sense of indulgent luxury. It’s very tempting to skip the 5.30 call for the morning game drive and just relish time in these sumptuous surroundings.

Game drives are, however, what guests are paying for in this private reserve area of the Greater Kruger, and Dulini offers a high-end safari experience. The 4x4 game viewer vehicles are top-of-the-range and feature only two seats on each row, so there’s no arguing over who gets the restricted views from a middle seat. That’s replaced by a box of goodies, including binoculars and warm blankets for darkness hours. Each vehicle is crewed by both a driver, who uses an earpiece to communicate with other teams (no crackling radios), and a highly skilled tracker. Morning coffee breaks and sundowner drinks in the bush offer a chance to tap into a little of their expert knowledge.

The wildlife is simply fabulous, with the big five present, but lots of other flora and fauna to discover. As a private reserve, the drivers have the discretion to move off the sandy trails that crisscross the park and get up close and personal with anything of interest. Amongst our highlights were discovering a leopard in a tree with an impala kill while hyenas lurked below, and watching a family of magnificent giraffes quietly going about their business.

Service and dining are equally outstanding. Meals and snack-times are creative, generous, and delicious, and the team deliver impeccable service with warmth and genuine care.
