Angsana Velavaru Dhaalu atoll

Our Opinion
Angsana Velavaru or 'Turtle Island' is one of those islands that evokes a sense of calm from the moment you arrive....a great place to unwind from the stresses of life. Its beach villas have had a makeover and have a more contemporary feel with subtle touches of colour and the addition of pools to some rooms.
Dining options are good with the addition of a Maldivian pop up restaurant on some nights, along with a lovely Italian overwater restaurant, Azzuro. The main restaurant is a traditional buffet style with some live cooking but again barefoot. Two other dining options are the pool bar and Funa, an overwater a la carte restaurant offer speciality dinners such as lobster nights.
On the other side of the lagoon are the InOcean Villas, the first 'stand alone' cluster of water villas in the Maldives. Those seeking total peace and tranquility will like this part of the resort. Great views and great space.
Velavaru has a good house reef and access is with direct from the in ocean villa jetty or on a complimentary daily house reef boat trip. Sharks, turtles and rays were all in abundance on our last trip.

Summary
Velavaru was taken over by Banyan Tree after the tsunami. A refurbishment has produced a great little hideaway.
On the main island of Velavaru there are 79 beachfront villas nestled underneath the lush canopy of tropical trees. Across the other side of the lagoon are the InOcean Villas....a cluster of 34 standalone water villas right on the edge of the house reef.
In the past lack of decent snorkelling without having to jump on a snorkelling excursion was always a weakness of Velavaru. For those clients staying in the InOcean Villas a superb drop-off with great snorkelling runs all the way along the sunset side within easy reach of the villas.
At Angsana Velevaru, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. From exciting dives to relaxing massages, the resort provides a myriad of choices designed to cater to diverse interests, ages and preferences, ensuring there is something for everyone - in fact, the resort proudly promotes its "1 Location, 101 Things To Do - No Lagoon Like It!" concept.
For Fabulous beaches and the traditional “no news, no shoes” feel, Velavaru is a great contender.
