V Villas Maldives at Mirihi - MGallery Collection
Ari AtollOur Opinion of V Villas Maldives at Mirihi - MGallery Collection
The most recent Angelfish visitors to V Villas Maldives at Mirihi - MGallery Collection were Dan & Jo.
The most recent Angelfish visitors were Dan & Jo, though we should mention that our visit was before the rebrand from Mirihi to V Villas under the MGallery Collection. We've yet to see the transformation in person, but the new imagery looks terrific — and we're genuinely looking forward to getting back later this year to experience the changes first-hand.
What we can tell you with full confidence (because the things that made this place special haven't changed) is this: Mirihi was around for over 20 years, and during that time it built a loyal base of repeater clients that return again and again to a welcoming and homely atmosphere.
It's a naturally pretty island, with a great beach that extends about two-thirds of the way around, and provides easy access to a very nice house reef. The location is perfect, nestled in the inner part of the South Ari Atoll, with year-round access to Whaleshark, Manta and myriad dive sites. The award-winning Ocean Pro dive centre also manages the Project Hope coral conservation and regeneration programme, successfully restoring corals to bleaching-damaged parts of the reef.
The rebrand has brought a refresh to the villas (now 38 — 6 beach, 30 overwater and 2 two-bedroom suites), and the new V Villas style looks like a significant step up. We're reserving full judgment until we've stayed in one, but the early signs are promising.
Dining was always a strong suit at Mirihi, and with the same restaurants at its heart — Muraka over-water (a must), Dhonveli main restaurant with its well-separated tables and super-soft sand floors running through the bar and reception — there's no reason to expect that's changed. The Half Board Plus and Full Board Plus meal plans remain a solid option, including drinks with meals in Dhonveli, throughout the day at Anba bar, plus soft drinks and beers in your mini bar and sundowner cocktails at Muraka.
When you're not diving or snorkelling, there are non-motorised water sports, a small, nicely-equipped gym and a little Duniye spa. The well-established management team ensures everything runs like clockwork, and the service stays friendly and personal.
With just 38 keys and a loyal repeater following, it needs booking well in advance for high season — even more so now the word is out about the upgrade.
