Fundu Lagoon

Tucked away on the Wambaa Peninsula in southwest Pemba Island, Fundu Lagoon is a chic eco-paradise reached only by boat. Along a sweeping beach, rustic thatched-roof lodges crafted from sun-dried coconut palms blend seamlessly into the Indian Ocean shoreline, evoking a Robinson Crusoe charm.

The resort offers some of East Africa’s best drift and wall diving, with frequent encounters with barracuda, trevallies, napoleon wrasse, groupers, turtles, rays, and vibrant reef fish. Divers can explore gorgonian sea fans, giant sponges, and ancient cabbage corals, with visibility of 20-40 metres—best from October to March—amid warm 27-28°C waters.

Secluded and serene, it’s the perfect escape for solo adventurers, couples, friends, and families with children over 12.

Accommodation

Fundu Lagoon has just 18 rooms that consist of canvas tents set under 'makuti' thatch roofs on wooden decks, all with views of the Indian Ocean. Beds are kings or twins and all categories have an en-suite bathroom with hot shower, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, an in-room fridge and a secure box.

Standard Hillside Room

These are the standard bungalows. They enjoy privacy, panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. The decks accommodate a sofa and sun loungers.

Standard Beachfront Room

The layout is identical to the Hillside Room but with direct access to the beach.

Beach Suite

Situated right of the beach, this bungalow has an extensive private deck with a sunken seating area and a plunge pool.

Jungle Suite

This bungalow offers more privacy, set slightly back from the beach in the trees. It also has an extensive private deck with an elevated seating area and a plunge pool.

Superior Suite

The largest of the bungalows, these extensive suites offer deluxe accommodation incorporating a stylish bedroom and an open plan living area. The spacious outside deck area has a plunge pool. The stone-walled bathroom has a double sink and a shower.

Restaurants & Bars

The resort features two restaurants serving a diverse blend of Swahili, Indian, Arabic, and European-inspired dishes. With four bars offering fresh juices, wines, beers, and cocktails, there’s no shortage of refreshment - try the signature ceviche paired with a handcrafted cocktail at the scenic Jetty Bar.

All meals, soft drinks, beers and house wine are included, with spirits and cocktails incurring an extra charge.

Dive Centre

The in-house PADI 5* dive centre, run by an experienced team, serves as the hub for all watersports, offering beginner and advanced courses, guided day and night dives, and full equipment hire.

Fundu Fusion Spa

An intimate spa offering rejuvenating massages—including aromatherapy, Balinese, hot stone, Shiatsu Thai, Lomilomi, and Indian head, shoulder, and foot treatments—plus facials, body scrubs, manicures, pedicures, and waxing.
