Lunuganga Hotel, Sri Lanka
Our Opinion of Lunuganga
Once Geoffrey Bawa’s country home and lifelong creative playground, now a boutique hotel, Lunuganga features antique furnishings and an eclectic art collection. Guests can enjoy guided tours of the gardens which are designed to enhance the views from each aspect of the property. The estate isn’t flashy or grand but radiates thoughtfulness. It’s a space designed not to impress but to evoke a feeling. You don’t just visit Lunuganga; you experience it.
Lunuganga Summary
Lunuganga was the former holiday home of Sri Lanka’s most famous architect, Geoffrey Bawa, and is still held in trust. The hotel is located on the banks of Dedduwa Lake, just a 10 minute drive inland from the lovely beaches of Bentota.
Each of the ten guestrooms is individually-designed; most are housed in unique pavilions and villas dotted around the grounds, although some are in the main house. The Geoffrey Bawa Suite, also located in the main house, features a private courtyard and plunge pool.
The property also features 15 acres of tropical gardens, a swimming pool, and an open-plan restaurant with views over the lake and gardens. The restaurant offers fresh, home-cooked Sri Lankan meals, alongside a menu of international and contemporary Asisn fusion dishes.
Families are welcome, but please note that the property and grounds are more suited for older children.
