Constance Belle Mare Plage
Our Opinion of Constance Belle Mare Plage
Situated on a magnificent 2 km stretch of white-sand beach on Mauritius’ east coast, Constance Belle Mare Plage has long been a favourite with families, food lovers and golfers, and remains one of the island’s most versatile and well-rounded resorts.
The resort’s 259 rooms and suites are all sea-facing or beachfront and are set within lush tropical gardens in low-rise blocks of no more than three floors, alongside four swimming pools. Interiors are light and contemporary in style, with Junior and Deluxe Suites offering generous space, while a range of interconnecting options – including Prestige Rooms, Junior Suites and Prestige Room + Deluxe Suite combinations – make this a particularly strong choice for families. As with any large, established resort, room styles and layouts do vary slightly, but overall accommodation standards are high and well maintained.
We are especially fond of the 2 and 3 Bedroom Pool Villas, tucked away at the northern edge of the resort. These offer expansive living spaces, private pools, dedicated Villa Master service and full access to all resort facilities. They represent excellent value for families or groups of friends, particularly golfers. For larger parties, the five-bedroom Presidential Villa is also available.
For golf enthusiasts, Belle Mare Plage offers arguably the finest golf set-up in the Indian Ocean. Guests have access to two outstanding championship courses – Legend and Links – each with its own excellent clubhouse and a level of service that sets the benchmark. Clubs are stored, cleaned and delivered directly to your buggy, and green fees are included for resort guests.
Beyond golf, the range of activities is impressive: tennis courts, volleyball, table tennis, mountain biking, and a wide selection of complimentary and chargeable water sports including water-skiing, glass-bottom boat trips and scuba diving. There are also optional experiences such as horse riding, guided bike tours and quad biking. The state-of-the-art fitness centre, equipped with Technogym and Life Fitness, runs a varied programme of complimentary group classes, while the Constance Spa offers a sauna, steam room and a full menu of massages and treatments across ten treatment rooms. Younger guests are well catered for at the Constance Kids Club (ages 4–11), which runs engaging daily programmes in a safe and friendly environment.
Gastronomy is a real strength here. Dining across the resort’s seven restaurants is consistently of a high standard, from the expansive but well-designed La Citronelle to the atmospheric Blue Penny Cellar, which combines fine dining with one of the most impressive wine collections in the region. A special mention goes to Deer Hunter, located at the Legend clubhouse, which is a destination in its own right and well worth visiting even for non-golfers.
Despite its size, Belle Mare Plage feels remarkably walkable, with most restaurants and pools centrally located, and service throughout the resort is generally efficient and warm. The All Inclusive package is particularly good value, offering dining across all restaurants on a credit basis and a generous drinks list at all outlets.
Overall, Constance Belle Mare Plage fully deserves its place on our Highly Recommended list. It is a confident choice for clients seeking an established, high-quality resort with exceptional golf, excellent dining, a wide range of activities and accommodation options that suit couples, families and groups alike.
