Shanti Maurice is perhaps Mauritius' best kept secret in our opinion.
It was originally built as a spa resort, but has since spread its wings. While the fabulous spa remains a range of facilities have been added and this is a real all-round quality resort.
Set in 36 acres of lush vegetation, this is a classy and intimate property, with excellent service, ideal for honeymooners, or those seeking indulgent, yet unfussy luxury. The suites are spacious with an understated elegance and they also offer villas on the other side of the resort.
Some will tell you there are no good beaches on the South Coast of Mauritius. We can only assume they haven't visited Shanti Maurice, which has a lovely long stretch of sand, as well as a more dramatic, rugged shoreline. This is where the superb Rum Shed Bar & Grill is located - an evening here, eating wonderfully authentic Mauritian food and watching the breakers and your hectic life back home seems like a distant memory!
We think the food is great. As well as refined restaurant dining, you can also take a picnic in the grounds, or experience authentic Mauritian home cooking in a memorable outdoor setting La Kaze Mama.
Top tip: If the budget doesn't stretch to visit here for your whole stay, why not combine with a stay at La Maison 20 Degrés Sud in the North of the Island.

- Junior Suite Beachfront (16 units) — ground floor on the beach, with a private sunbed pavilion, outdoor shower and direct beach access. The signature Shanti Beach Experience category. 72 m².
- Oceanview Pool Villa (8 units) — one-bedroom villa in a secluded area with direct ocean views, private garden, temperature-controlled private pool (36 m²), butler service and private dining pavilion. 250 m².
