The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands, Maldives
North Male AtollOur Opinion of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives Fari Islands
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is an ultra-contemporary resort that blends cutting-edge design with the natural beauty of the Indian Ocean. The villas are genuinely spectacular — vast, light-filled spaces with wide retracting windows that frame cinematic ocean views straight from the bed. The two-bedroom beach pool villas are especially impressive for families, offering both privacy and generous space.
Facilities are world-class, from the striking over-water spa, which feels like something from a Bond film, to the Jean-Michel Cousteau Ambassadors of the Environment centre — one of the most advanced marine biology programmes in the Maldives. The Ritz Kids Club is outstanding, with creative activities and immersive learning that go far beyond the norm. Evenings centre around the elegant Eau Bar, where the sunset fire ritual adds a touch of theatre. With three interconnected islands, the resort feels expansive and is ideal for exploring by bike or on foot.
There are a few caveats: dining is limited for a resort of this scale, though guests can reach additional options at Fari Marina Village via a short boat shuttle. The man-made nature of the island means foliage is still developing, leaving some paths exposed and hot during the day, and there’s no house reef — snorkelling trips require a boat excursion. Service on our visit was somewhat inconsistent, and prices are among the highest in the Maldives, placing it firmly in competition with the very best.
A visually stunning resort with superb facilities and family appeal, the Ritz-Carlton Maldives will most impress design lovers and travellers who value style, space, and sophistication over a traditional island feel.
