Our Opinion of Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa
Four Seasons was one of the first international brands to take the Maldives seriously, and Kuda Huraa, their original island, is a reminder that they simply don't do bad resorts. It sits 25 minutes from Malé by speedboat on the edge of North Malé Atoll, which makes it the most accessible version of a Four Seasons Maldives holiday you can buy: no seaplane, no faff, just a short run across the lagoon.
The dining line-up is one of the resort's strengths. Baraabaru, the Indian restaurant set on its own overwater deck, has a strong reputation, and Reef Club's Tuscan-inspired seafood lunches are a popular draw. Café Huraa and the Kandu Grill complete the choice, and the swim-up bar makes for a properly lazy afternoon.
The real draw, though, is the surfing. The island sits close to some of the most consistent breaks in the Indian Ocean, Tropicsurf runs lessons for every level, and the resort hosts an annual Champions Trophy. Beginners get gentle lagoon waves while experienced surfers get guided trips to the outer breaks, with a seaplane surfari available for anyone wanting to reach quieter, uncrowded spots.
Add the lush garden-island feel, 96 villas all with plunge pools, and a spa on its own private island reached by dhoni, and you have a very complete all-rounder.
The one caveat: there's no house reef. Snorkellers will need a boat trip, and North Malé waters are busier than the far atolls. If stepping off the beach straight onto a reef is non-negotiable, this isn't your island.
