Our Opinion of Amilla

Amilla is an impressive, modern luxury resort in the Baa Atoll that aims to compete at the 5 star deluxe level, which these days means it has a lot of competition in the Maldives. Translating as ‘My Island Home’, Amilla Fushi mixes large residences (up to 8 bedrooms) with individual villas.

Amilla certainly sets itself apart when it comes to architecture. The modern, minimalist, geometrical villas are a far cry from the traditional Maldivian beach bungalow, and are likely to polarise tastes. That said, they are beautifully appointed inside and undeniably capacious – perfect for families, or couples who like to spend time apart while still in the same room.

As well as the obligatory spa (with a bewildering array of different products and treatments), dive centre, tennis courts, kids’ club, water sports and boutique, Amilla also offers an upmarket convenience store for those planning on spending more time ‘at home’.

The Wellness Tree Houses offer a unique experience, and indeed perspective for the Maldives, providing a reclusive retreat from the rest of the world scurrying around at beach level, and will appeal to couples who like their beauty therapists to come to them.

We found dining to be excellent throughout out (the range of buffet & a-la-iPad options for breakfast alone will boggle the indecisive), with their signature restaurant, offering exquisite dishes.

    Amilla Summary

Opened in 2014, Amilla is a luxury resort nestled on a large island within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. With only 59 villas and 8 residences, the majority of the island remains covered in lush jungle. Guests have a choice of spacious accommodations which are either over water, nestled amongst the tree tops or positioned right on the shoreline.

    Sustainability and Inclusivity
As an EarthCheck Silver-certified resort, Amilla has various initiatives in place to minimise its impact on the delicate surrounding environment. The large gardens produce a variety of herbs, vegetables, fruits, and mushroom for use in the kitchens, and the resort has its own chicken and duck farm, Cluckingham Palace, where guests can collect fresh eggs for breakfast. There is even a coconut processing facility that produces not only coconut milk and cream, but also cold-pressed oil, rope, and other usable products.

Amilla is also the world's first Inclucare-certified resort, and collaborates closely with a team of UK-based specialists on accessible travel. Staff members are trained in supporting not only guests with mobility impairments, but also those with hearing and visual impairments as well as hidden disabilities. Ramps and lifts can be added to most villas, and both beach wheelchairs and swimming wheelchairs are complimentary. Please contact us for additional details.

    Amilla FAQs

How do you get to Amilla Maldives?

Amilla can be reached by a 35-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport in Male. Guests arriving after seaplane operating hours can take a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport, followed by a short 10-minute speedboat journey.

What meal plans are available at Amilla?

B&B, Half Board, Full Board, and Dine-Around All-Inclusive are available. Guests on at least Half Board can have dinner at a number of the resort's restaurants, and all guests can enjoy homemade ice cream complimentary throughout the day. Contact us for more information on meal plan inclusions.

Does Amilla have a house reef?

Yes, Amilla has a very nice reef, rich in marine life. It circles the island but guests are advised to avoid the strong currents at the Southern tip and at the end of the water villa jetty, and snorkelling and swimming is not permitted in front of the marina entrance.

There is a steep drop off on the North Eastern side which can be accessed from the beach near the Yoga pavilion jetty, or directly from the Reef Water Pool Villas.
