Fort Bazaar Hotel, Sri Lanka
Our Opinion of Fort Bazaar
Fort Bazaar is located in the centre of Galle Fort, the only living fort in Asia – an ideal spot for exploring this famous UNESCO Heritage site. The new swimming pool is a welcome enhancement to the property (especially as most of the rooms don’t have a private outside space), providing somewhere to relax and cool off after walking the walls of the fort. The complimentary afternoon tea with cake was a nice touch, and the bar and restaurant have a lively buzz in the evening with a good menu selection.
Fort Bazaar Summary
Fort Bazaar is an 18-room boutique hotel located at the heart of Galle Fort - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formerly a spice merchant's home, the building is historic yet the interiors have been beautifully reinvented for the contemporary traveler.
The hotel's restaurant, Church Street Social, is one of Galle’s most vibrant dining venues, welcoming hotel guests and walk-ins alike. Menus include Sri Lankan, Southeast Asian, and European flavours, often incorporating fresh seafood.
The hotel also features a small, intimate spa, which offers a number of massages, facials, and body treatments.
Rooms have either a view of the courtyard or a private veranda/terrace. The largest room, the Upper Suites, also include a sitting area with sofa, a large private balcony with views across the fort’s rooftops, and a large bathroom with rain shower and freestanding bathtub.
