Constance Prince Maurice
Our Opinion of Constance Prince Maurice
Constance Prince Maurice is the flagship resort of Constance Hotels & Resorts in Mauritius and stands firmly among the island’s finest five-star properties. Set within 60 acres of lush tropical gardens, bordered by a natural fish reserve and mangrove swamps on one side and a tranquil lagoon on the other, the resort is beautifully integrated into its surroundings and immediately creates a powerful sense of arrival. Whether entering via the long driveway or descending by helicopter, it is clear from the outset that this is somewhere truly special.
The resort’s elegant, airy Mauritian architecture blends seamlessly with the landscape, making extensive use of natural materials such as wood, sandstone, marble and thatch. Interiors favour a classic, refined style that feels calm and sophisticated; while some design elements lean towards the traditional, everything is immaculately maintained and the overall impression remains one of understated luxury.
Accommodation is arranged in a series of intimate, two-storey villas scattered throughout the gardens, creating a feeling of privacy and space. Junior Suites are notably generous at around 70 sqm, with excellent beds and high-quality linens. A small number of suites and villas are built on stilts over the lagoon, a unique feature in Mauritius, while the resort also offers 12 private villas – three on stilts and nine beachfront with private pools. For the ultimate in exclusivity, the 350 sqm Princely Villa delivers exceptional space, privacy and service for larger families or groups.
Dining is a genuine highlight and one of Prince Maurice’s greatest strengths. The quality of food and service across the resort is consistently excellent. Archipel offers refined buffet dining by day and à la carte menus in the evening, while Asian delivers polished Oriental cuisine. The bars provide elegant settings for relaxed pre- and post-dinner drinks, and the resort’s legendary Wine Cellar, housing around 25,000 bottles, is an experience in itself – sommelier-hosted tastings are highly recommended. The undisputed centrepiece is Le Barachois, set on floating pontoon decks within the mangroves and reached by a softly lit walkway. Its atmospheric setting and exquisite menus make dinner here a truly memorable experience.
Facilities are equally impressive. The resort offers a heated, tranquil pool ideal for lap swimming, a comprehensive spa, complimentary activities including yoga, cycling and water sports, and a discreetly run kids’ club. Sea swimming can be tide-dependent, but this is balanced by the resort’s peaceful lagoon setting and excellent pool facilities.
Golfers are exceptionally well catered for, with access to the Legends and Links championship courses, both of which are immaculately maintained and supported by outstanding service. The Swing Clubhouse and the much-loved Deer Hunter restaurant at Legends are destinations in their own right and well worth a visit even for non-golfers.
A proud member of Leading Hotels of the World, Constance Prince Maurice is an elegant, serene and sophisticated resort, best suited to couples, honeymooners and discerning travellers seeking refined luxury, exceptional dining and a strong sense of place. It remains one of the most accomplished and complete luxury resorts in Mauritius and fully deserves its position on any shortlist of the island’s very best.
