Al Zorah is something of a surprise. Just 25 minutes from Dubai International Airport, you find yourself not in another city of chrome and glass, but among protected mangroves, tidal lagoons and long stretches of white sand. This is the Oberoi's first UAE resort, and they have chosen a setting that feels deliberately apart from the gloss of the Dubai strip. The development itself includes an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus golf course and a full range of watersports, but the resort maintains its own calm remove within it.
The pool is the central set piece: 85 metres of temperature-controlled water, flanked by sun loungers and palms. For families, there is a dedicated children's area with a sandbox and two shallow toddler pools, which means younger guests are well catered for without encroaching on the quieter zones.
