Our Opinion of Anantara Al Sahel Villa Resort

Anantara Al Sahel Villa Resort is one of three Anantara properties on Sir Bani Yas Island, a protected nature reserve that was once the private retreat of Abu Dhabi's ruling family. While its sister resorts sit along the shoreline, Al Sahel is set inland on the savannah, designed to feel like a luxury safari camp.

The defining feature is the wildlife. Arabian oryx, gazelles and other native species roam the grounds freely, and guests can watch them from their villa terrace or explore further on guided wildlife drives. The island offers more than game viewing, with archery, kayaking, snorkelling on the Arabian Gulf reefs, and cultural tours covering the island's history. The setting is unmistakably Arabian, but the experience mirrors an African safari lodge in feel and pace.

Accommodation is limited to 30 villas, many with private plunge pools, finished in a rustic-luxury style with natural materials and earthy tones. The restaurant, Savannah Grill, overlooks a waterhole that attracts wildlife throughout the day.

This resort suits guests who want an active, nature-focused break rather than a traditional beach holiday. It works well for couples and families, and it is especially appealing to those who value wildlife encounters and something genuinely different from the standard UAE resort offering.
