Set along the south east coast of Zanzibar, Zawadi Hotel is the newest property from the Zanzibar Collection, the same group behind Baraza, Breezes and The Palms. The location is a study in contrasts: the hotel perches atop a cliff with commanding views of the Indian Ocean, while below, the cliff recedes to reveal a lovely white sandy beach reached via a short stairway.
The resort operates on an all-inclusive basis and offers an infinity swimming pool, a choice of restaurants and a pool bar. For those who want more active pursuits, access to water sports, a PADI 5 Star dive centre and a tennis court are available at the sister hotel roughly two kilometres away, with a complimentary shuttle service running between the two.
The cliff-top setting gives Zawadi a different feel from the typical beachfront resort. The views are spectacular, and the sense of elevation adds something special, though guests should be comfortable with the stairway down to the beach.
