Jetwing St. Andrews Hotel, Sri Lanka
Our Opinion of Jetwing St Andrews Hotel
Located in the magnificent hill country in the central region of Sri Lanka, this colonial style resort built in the style of a Georgian country mansion, and nicknamed 'Little England' is a peaceful haven near the town of Nuwara Eliya. Enjoy exploring tea country either by car, or if you are brave, take a bike out and wind your way around the tea estates pausing (for breath) and to sample the many local teas available.
Jetwing St Andrews Hotel Summary
Jetwing St. Andrews is tucked away down its own lane on the slopes of the hill capital Nuwara Eliya, surrounded by mountains, in the centre of Sri Lanka. It is one of several hotels and guest houses ranging from the rustic to the grandiose that dot the hillside, hidden away in lush green plantations.
The hotel's location is close to the heart of town yet away from the bustle. Built around an old Tudor country house which served as a grand colonial residence during the days of British rule, here guests take a step back a hundred years and more to another era of old world charm and tradition, where customs are still maintained to the letter.
Guests can enjoy Full English breakfast and high tea on the lawn; when the seasons change the log fires are lit, and stiff brandies are poured to counter the night chill. The comforts of yesteryear cleverly conceal every must-have amenity of today allowing visitors to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Explore the green tea plantations, play a round of golf on a world famous course, or indulge in a little fishing on the lake.
Jetwing St. Andrews is very proud of the wetland that was designed and developed at the hotel to provide for, and attract wildlife; so far 25 species of birds (including 4 endemic), 12 species of butterflies, 9 species of amphibians and 4 species of dragonflies have been observed.
