Victoria & Alfred Hotel

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel occupies a wonderful spot right in the heart of Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, housed in what was originally the North Quay Warehouse, built in 1904. There is a real sense of history here, but the hotel has been thoughtfully updated so it feels contemporary and comfortable rather than dated. The location is the obvious draw: you are steps from the harbour, shops, restaurants, and the constant bustle of the Waterfront, with Table Mountain rising behind it all.

Rooms are divided into two categories depending on what you want to wake up to. The Mountain Facing Rooms look out over the Alfred Basin towards Table Mountain, which is a genuinely lovely view to have with your morning coffee. The Piazza Facing Rooms overlook the lively square below, which means more energy and people-watching but potentially more noise too. All rooms are well appointed with king-size beds, air conditioning, smart TVs, and good quality linens. The bathrooms are en suite and modern.

Dining is well catered for. Ginja restaurant is on site and serves excellent meals with a view, while breakfast is taken at Dash in the neighbouring Queen Victoria Hotel at no extra cost when you book on a bed and breakfast basis. It is a well run arrangement that gives you a bit more choice.

This is a hotel for travellers who want to be at the centre of things rather than tucked away in a peaceful resort. If you are exploring Cape Town and value location and character over seclusion, the Victoria & Alfred delivers both in spades.
