A 4x4 transfer takes visitors through the reserve to the start of a series of ziplines and bridges on the cliffs and fynbos covered mountain slopes above Riviersonderend Gorge. During the 4-5 hour tour, experienced guides will provide insights into the fascinating flora and geology of this World Heritage Site.

Check in at Liz McGrath Collection's elegant boutique hotel The Marine.

The Marine's dramatic cliff top setting provides a perfect location to explore the Hermanus Cliff Path, which passes directly in front of the hotel.

The famous Hermanus Cliff Path, originally built by the Hermanus Botanical Society and now part of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, hugs the rugged coastline around Walker Bay and stretches for 12km, over 9km of which is accessible to wheelchairs. Along the path lie many of the >1,250 species of plany so far identified in the reserve, including many that are rare and endangered, with lillies, orchids, daisies and 'vygies' adding flashes of colour. On sunny days, Rock Dassies sunbathe on cliff ledges, while everlasting healing plants scent the air.

In whale season, usually July to November, sometimes longer, there are numerous points along the path that are perfect for spotting the Southern Right Whales as they come close to the coastline to breed and calve.

The path also features an extensive array of art sculptures and an astronomy exhibition, including a scale model of the solar system.

Suggested restaurants:
The Pavilion at The Marine, or La Pentola for fusion cuisine in a friendly atmosphere.

Overnight at The Marine.

Day 4 Hermanus

After breakfast, take a Big 5 Ocean Safari for the opportunity to spot a range of marine life. Walker Bay is home to large populations of Cape Fur Seal, Jack Ass Penguin and African Penguin, while frequent visitors include Brydes Whales, Bottlenose and Common Dolphins, and occasionally Humpback Whales.

For the adventurous, an alternative marine activity is shark cage diving!

Day 6 Franschhoek

Take the day to explore Franschhoek and the surrounding winelands.

There are a number of wineries that offer tastings within walking distance of the town centre, but for a sense of fun and occasion, we recommend buying a ticket for the hop-on-hop-off Franschhoek Wine Tram. This will take you further afield and includes stops for some of the top wine estates in the area, such as Babylonstoren and Boschendal.

Guests staying at Le Quartier Francais are entitled to a complimentary tasting at the Great Heart Wine Boutique, which is highly recommended, both for the excellent wines and to learn about this inspirational community owned and run project.

Art lovers will find a plethora of fascinating galleries showcasing local and international artists throughout the town, not least the Everard Read gallery adjacent to Le Quartier Francais.

Overnight at Le Quartier Francais.

Day 7 Welgevonden Game Reserve

Take an early transfer to Cape Town International Airport for a morning domestic flight transfer to Johannesburg.

On arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met by our representative and then make your way by road to Welgevonden Game Reserve, 3-3 1/2 hours North.

Situated in the Waterberg District of South Africa’s Limpopo Province, Welgevoden Private Game Reserve stretches over 36 000 hectares of mountainous terrain cut by deep valleys. It is home to the ‘Big Five’, abundant antelope, over 250 bird species, and several rare wildlife species such as brown hyena, pangolin, aardwolf, and aardvark. It is also inhabited by one of the largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve in Africa. Tourists can enjoy an exclusive, peaceful experience - only a limited number of guests are allowed in at one time - and choose from a wide range of activities including game drives, guided walks, horse riding, star gazing, and rock painting tours. This malaria-free reserve forms part of the UNESCO-listed Waterberg Biosphere Reserve.

On entry through the main park gate you will then be met by your safari guide, who will drive you through the reserve in a safari game drive viewer vehicle to your lodge, the intimate, family-run Laluka Safari Lodge.

Afternoon game drive: your driver guide will take you from the lodge to explore the reserve and its abundance of wildlife. At sunset you'll enjoy sundowners in the bush, returning to the lodge after dark for drinks and dinner, and an opportunity to share your exciting sightings.

Overnight at Laluka Safari Lodge.

Day 8 Welgevonden Game Reserve

The wake-up call for your morning game drive is before dawn. Refreshements are served in the main lodge before you head out into the park. Your guide will tailor your safari based on your interests and what you are keen to see. They can also arrange walking safaris to get a genuine feel for being in the bush. We recommend a trek to see the nearby ancient bushmen rock paintings.

After the morning safari, you'll return to the lodge for breakfast, after which you have some leisure time. You can relax in your luxury suite with private plunge pool on the deck, investigate the incredible waterhole hide, or book in for a spa treatment.

Lunch is server in the main lodge, with further refreshments available before you embark on your afternoon game drive.

Overnight at Laluka Safari Lodge.

Day 9 Johannesburg

After your morning game drive and breakfast, depart the lodge and return to the Welgevonden Game Reserve main gate. There you switch to your road vehicle transfer and make the journey back to Johannesburg.

Check in at the delightful, tucked-away Residence Hotel.

Rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel facilities, or venturing into Johannesburg city centre. The Residence has an excellent chauffeur service to ferry you around and pick you up as required. We'd recommend a stroll along 4th Avenue in Parkhurst for boutique shopping for gifts and fine South African wines, as well as welcoming bars & eateries.

Suggested restaurants:
The Dining Room at The Residence Hotel for quality and convenience, or Marble Restaurant for outstanding flame-cooked steaks in swanky surroundings.

Overnight at The Residence.

Day 10 Depart

After breakfast at leisure in the hotel or city, depending on your departure flight time.
