Joali Being Resort, Maldives
Raa AtollOur Opinion of JOALI BEING
JOALI BEING is an ambitious concept — the Maldives' first dedicated wellbeing island, purpose-built around the Four Pillars of Mind, Skin, Microbiome and Energy. It's not simply a resort with a good spa; the entire property, from its biophilic architecture to its 39-treatment-room wellness centre and personalised programmes, has been designed around transformative health. That's a serious undertaking, and the investment shows.
The facilities are extensive by any standard: a hydrotherapy sanctuary with Watsu, Banya steam room, Aufguss sauna and Turkish Hammam; a 16-metre movement studio overlooking the ocean; an herbology apothecary led by a resident practitioner; and a Sound Discovery Path with sculptural instruments set among the palms. The dining is overseen by in-house nutritionists, which gives the food offering a thoughtfulness you don't often see — but there's still overwater Japanese, teppanyaki and a treehouse bar, so it's not austere.
Sister property JOALI sits just 15 minutes away by boat, and that connection tells you something about the standard here. JOALI BEING draws from the same gene pool — the same attention to detail, the same refusal to cut corners — but channels it into something completely different.
All that said, this is not a resort for everyone. The programmes are the core product, and a stay here is a significant investment both in time and cost. If what you want is to reset, restore, and be guided by experts through a properly structured wellbeing journey, it's hard to imagine anywhere doing it more comprehensively. If what you want is a straightforward beach holiday with the option of a massage, the balance tips differently.

JOALI BEING Summary
JOALI BEING is the world's first wellbeing island of its kind — a purpose-built transformative wellness retreat on the secluded island of Bodufushi in Raa Atoll. It is the sister property to the award-winning JOALI Maldives, just 15 minutes away by boat, and approximately 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport (Malé), with guests welcomed at the JOALI private lounge before departure.
The resort is built around Four Pillars — Mind, Skin, Microbiome and Energy — developed with Professor Gerry Bodeker of Oxford, a Harvard-trained expert in integrative medicine and wellness. Every stay begins with an in-depth consultation and Integrative Lifestyle Assessment, producing a fully personalised programme ranging from five nights to three weeks, guided by an in-house team of naturopaths, therapists, movement experts and Ayurvedic doctors.
Wellbeing programmes target specific goals: strength and vitality, mental clarity, hormonal balance, women's health, digestive and weight rebalancing, restful sleep, and movement and alignment. Each programme is built from the initial assessment and adjusted throughout the stay.
