Baglioni Resort, Maldives
Dhaalu AtollOur Opinion of Baglioni Resort Maldives
Opened in 2019 and located on the island of Maagau in Dhaalu Atoll, Baglioni Resort Maldives brings a distinctive blend of Italian hospitality and relaxed island living to a beautiful, lush setting in the Indian Ocean.
The island itself is immediately appealing, with mature tropical vegetation, soft white sands and a strong sense of natural beauty. Accommodation is contemporary yet elegant, with a lighter, more understated design than many Maldivian resorts. Both beach and overwater villas are spacious and comfortable, with the overwater villas in particular offering easy lagoon access and a relaxed indoor-outdoor flow.
One of the standout features of Baglioni is its house reef, which is both impressive and easily accessible from the beach. Snorkelling here is excellent, with vibrant coral, strong fish life and frequent sightings of reef sharks and larger species. The reef offers variety on both sides of the island, making it a genuine highlight and a key reason to consider the resort.
Dining is another strength, with a clear Italian influence running through the offering. The signature Italian restaurant provides a refined setting with well-executed dishes, while Yama, the overwater Japanese restaurant, offers a contrasting dining experience in a beautiful location. The overall food quality is good, and the wine offering, while relatively concise, includes some well-priced premium options. There is a clear focus from the team on continuing to develop and enhance the dining experience.
Service throughout our stay was consistently warm, friendly and attentive, with a genuine sense of hospitality that reflects the Baglioni brand. From arrival to departure, the team create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, with thoughtful touches and a willingness to go the extra mile.
Facilities are well suited to the resort’s size and positioning, including a boutique spa, gym, tennis court and a small kids’ club. The overall feel is intimate and easy-going rather than extensive, which will appeal to guests looking for a quieter, more relaxed island experience.
Baglioni Resort Maldives is best suited to travellers seeking a beautiful island, strong snorkelling and a refined but relaxed atmosphere, with the added character of Italian hospitality. It may not aim to compete at the very top end of the Maldivian luxury spectrum, but it delivers a well-balanced and enjoyable experience that comes highly recommended.
Note: the resort has planned closures for enhancements (1 Sep — 15 Nov 2026, then 26 Apr — 7 Aug 2027).
