St Regis Vommuli Resort, Maldives
Dhaalu AtollOur Opinion of The St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort
St Regis Maldives Vommuli is a bold, architectural statement in the Maldivian luxury landscape, combining dramatic design, strong gastronomy and an increasingly confident sense of identity. Set on a beautifully maintained island in Dhaalu Atoll, it offers a distinctly modern take on ultra-luxury that feels a world away from some more traditional Maldivian resorts, and yet authentic to the destination.
First impressions are excellent. Arrival logistics are smooth and professional, and the resort immediately impresses with its striking architecture, where every structure has a story rooted in Maldivian heritage – from the iconic A-frame beach villas inspired by fishermen’s huts, to the lobster-claw-shaped spa and manta-ray-inspired Whale Bar. The island itself is immaculately landscaped and a pleasure to explore by bicycle, which are provided with each villa.
Accommodation is a real strength. Villas are exceptionally spacious, beautifully designed and feel genuinely luxurious. Overwater villas in particular offer expansive decks, elegant interiors and lovely lagoon views, while some sunset-facing villas sit close to the reef, making snorkelling directly from the villa a real highlight. Welcome touches and personalised details are handled with flair and reinforce the brand’s sense of occasion.
Dining at St Regis Vommuli is generally excellent and, in places, outstanding. Whale Bar sets a benchmark for both setting and quality, delivering one of the most impressive dining and cocktail experiences in the Maldives, with tapas-style dishes that are genuinely refined and memorable. Breakfast at Alba is another highlight, combining an extensive buffet with à la carte options and thoughtful local touches. Other dining venues offer variety, though as with any large luxury resort, service consistency can vary and remains an area where further polish would elevate the experience to an even higher level. That said, service throughout the resort is warm, professional and clearly well-intentioned, with many standout individuals.
The wine and minibar pricing is refreshingly competitive for a resort of this calibre, comparing very favourably with some direct competitors and offering good value within the luxury Maldives context.
For wellness and nature lovers, the resort will appeal on multiple levels. The Iridium Spa, with its Blue Hole hydrotherapy pool, is one of the most impressive in the Indian Ocean, and the complimentary wellness programme – including yoga and sound healing – is a genuine added value. Snorkelling is another major highlight: the house reef is easily accessible, rich in marine life, and shows encouraging signs of coral recovery, supported by an active marine biology programme. Guided snorkels are highly recommended and reveal just how strong the underwater offering is here.
Overall, St Regis Maldives Vommuli is a confident, contemporary luxury resort that excels in design, accommodation, wellness and standout dining experiences. It is particularly well suited to couples, honeymooners and discerning travellers who value space, style and a modern interpretation of Maldivian luxury, and remains a firm favourite for clients seeking something distinctive and high-end for their Maldivian escape.
